Sagging Skin
Sagging skin often accompanies wrinkles and volume loss as part of the ageing process.
Affecting both men and women; sagging skin develops over time and the skin on the cheeks and around the chin and jaw appears to descend. Sagging skin can cause the overall appearance to look tired and it also affects skin on the body typically arms, tummy and knees.
Like many other age-related skin concerns, sagging skin is primarily the result of loss of collagen and elastin. These are naturally produced by the skin and help to keep the complexion firm, full and stretchy. With age their production slows down, leading to a decline in their levels, usually at a rate of around 1-1.5% each year – which can increase with excessive exposure to UV rays. Lost collagen and elastin leads to a decrease in tissue density within the dermis, and the overall skin structure becomes weaker and thinner. As the underlying structure such as muscle loses volume the overlying skin loses its ability to bounce back in the same way it once did. This means the skin is less likely to retract and fit as tightly over the face and body. Gravity can then contribute, pulling down on the weakened skin, causing it to sag.
Improving the appearance of sagging skin can be achieved through a number of very popular aesthetic treatments. At Daleswood Aesthetics we can volumise the skin with the use of dermal fillers which help to hydrate the skin as well as replacing lost collagen. EMFACE our non-surgical, non-invasive, needle and toxin-free face lift is our treatment of choice to tackle sagging skin and fine, lines and wrinkes. Alternatively, Profhilo is a fantastic skin boosting product that stimulates the production of new collagen to help rebuild the internal structure. We can also firm and tighten the skin by using Thermage FLX which triggers collagen production and tightens the fibrous tissue. Our approach may require a single treatment solution, or a combination of treatments to achieve the desired result.
